Celebrate Eucharist

Celebrate Eucharist, Barbara Fiand tells us, Eucharist is more than the words of institution uttered by one person for the assembly. Eucharist is the event of the community gathered in remembrance of their covenant in Christ to be about the reign of God. It is the presencing that happens when the Body commits itself once again to be about what Christ called them to at that last supper and throughout his life - the justice agenda of God's reign symbolized in the washing of the feet. It happens in that remembering. Michael Hines said it so well when he paraphrased the words of Jesus: Where two or three are gathered in love, I am what happens between them.

National Aboriginal Day Prayer Service
(11.2mb may take significant time to load)

On June 21st, 2008, Canadians from all walks of life are invited to participate in the many National Aboriginal Day events that will be taking place from coast to coast. June 21st kick starts the 11 days of Celebrate Canada which includes National Aboriginal Day (June 21), Saint-Jean-Baptiste Day (June 24), Multiculturalism Day (June 27) and concludes with Canada Day (July 1).

National Aboriginal Day is a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of Inuit, Metis and First Nations peoples, discover the unique accomplishments of Aboriginal peoples in fields as varied as agriculture, the environment and the arts, and celebrate their significant contribution to Canadian society.

The Ministry of Education has prepared a document entitled, Building Bridges to Success for First Nation, Métis and Inuit Students. The document addresses developing policies for voluntary, confidential Aboriginal student self-identification: successful practices for Ontario School Boards. The document can be downloaded from the Ministry of Education’s website, at www.edu.gov.on.ca, or ordered free of charge from NOCCC.

  Ash Wednesday Celebration

Christmas Celebration is now on the members section, please log in to download. This is a celebration of Christmas before the children are dis-
missed for the Christmas vacation.

The Advent wreath is a circle made out of evergreens and four candles. Traditionally, three of the candles are violet and one is rose, but the color of the candles is not essential. The rose candle is used on the third Sunday of Advent. Rose is used to symbolize that Christmas is near, and you should rejoice. The third Sunday is also known as “Gaudete” which means “rejoice” in Latin. Rose colored vestments are worn.

Catholics use an Advent wreath to signify the weeks in the season of Advent. The Advent wreath represents living in spiritual darkness, waiting for Jesus to light the world. Many Catholic families have Advent wreaths in their homes. Advent wreaths are good to have because they make you slow down and concentrate on the meaning of Christmas.

Click the following link to download the Advent Wreath Blessing you will require your supplied user name and password of your board. If you are unsure, please contact your director for assistance.

Designing Prayer Centres

This resource was prepared in response to the many requests received by NOCCC for assistance in creating prayer centres. Designing Prayer Centres is a 40 page, full color or black and white publication

There are many ways of developing prayerfulness and a sense of the presence of God in the children we meet in our classrooms every day. This resource relies less on the theological expertise of the teacher and more on his/her knowledge of the religion program being taught and his/her sensitivity in recognizing the many situations in a classroom where children naturally respond to God as He exists in their world.

We trust that this resource will assist our teachers in creating a meaningful prayer centre that children will be drawn to, and the atmosphere in the classroom will be imbued with a sense of God. Everyone involved in the production of this resource hopes you find it useful in strengthening Catholic programs, which you provide for your students
